Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) has been granted $58,750 from NeighborWorks America to support its community development and affordable housing initiatives in Idaho.  NHS is one of two NeighborWorks affiliates in Idaho (also Pocatello), which receive operating grants from federal funds directly allocated to NeighborWorks by Congress. NeighborWorks also provides substantial training and resources to NHS throughout the year.

NeighborWorks America is a public nonprofit organization, established by Congress in 1978 as the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation (through Public Law 95-557) and is the nation’s original community/public/private partnership model, with locally-driven, efficient community development and leverage of the public investment as its hallmarks.  Over the past 35 years, NeighborWorks America and its affiliated local community-based NeighborWorks organizations have consistently replicated this successful model in more than 4,500 communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico; in America’s urban, suburban and rural communities.  Local NeighborWorks organizations receive grants, training, technical assistance and other programmatic support and services from NeighborWorks America.

“NeighborWorks America is able to distribute funds on the ground expeditiously, and with careful stewardship and quality control, so that those dollars can immediately be used to improve communities and create jobs” said NeighborWorks America’s CEO Eileen Fitzgerald.  “Just one indicator of the value of NeighborWorks is reflected in the fact that in FY 2012 the corporation leveraged its core federal appropriation of $135.3 million by a factor of $34.5 to $1 -- meaning, for every dollar of appropriated funding, the NeighborWorks network generated $34.50 of direct investment -- resulting in a direct investment of more than $4.6 billion in local communities, primarily from the private sector.  As good stewards of taxpayer dollars, NeighborWorks ensures its investments are working in ways that truly make a difference.”

NHS has been a NeighborWorks affiliate since its beginning over 30 years ago. NHS’ ability to attract this federal funding and support to Idaho boosts the local economy and brings resources for continued improvement to our homes and neighborhoods.  For more on NHS, visit
