Celebrating Paint The Town’s Success

06/13/14 at 02:14 PM by Jillian Hanes

It has been said that, “Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.”  Thousands of people contributed to the success of Neighborhood Housing Services’ Paint The Town™ event this past weekend – giving of their time, money or expertise to help paint and revitalize the houses of low-income homeowners, many of them senior or disabled, within our community.  We are extremely grateful for this outpouring of support from our volunteers, sponsors, and donors as they joined efforts to make a difference within our neighborhoods.

Before & After

Teamwork

Whether it took one week or one day, this year’s 59 volunteer teams worked together to paint and repair  50 homes around Boise.  One recipient’s statement echoes the appreciation that many others felt when she wrote, “Thank you so much for selecting my home for painting.  This has lifted a huge weight from my shoulders.”  NHS would like to thank each of the following teams for helping lift that weight.

Sponsor Support

While the volunteers actually do the work, our major sponsors are the ones that give Paint The Town™ the community-wide media exposure and allow us to purchase the bulk of our painting supplies.  NHS is extremely grateful for our new and recurrent event sponsors who understand the importance of revitalizing our community and helping our neighbors.

Successful Celebration

Our dedicated planning committee put on a fun-filled, successful block party on the day of Paint The Town™.  Volunteers, recipients, neighbors, and their families enjoyed:

  • Free BBQ
  • Music by 94.9 The River
  • Live music by the local band, Blaze and Kelly
  • Photo booth
  • Bounce house for kids
  • Face painting
  • Free massages
  • Arts & crafts activities
  • Many prize giveaways

Winners of the Paint The Town™ Buy A Bucket campaign included:

  • Shirley Briggs won 2 Southwest Airline tickets
  • Jason Mau won a commercial Charbroil grill
  • James Franklin won an iPad Air

Teams were encouraged to bring in as many donations as they could, and it was the local law firm of Greener Burke Shoemaker Oberrecht P.A. (GBSO) that took home the Biggest Bucket Award.  The team from Hewlett Packard Storage brought the Best In Show Award back to their office for winning our photo contest.

This year, Paint The Town’s™ success can be measured in several ways.  It can be calculated in the number of homes that received quality improvements throughout Boise, the restored pride of homeownership that the recipients gained in seeing their freshly painted and revitalized homes, and the camaraderie that team members gained as they worked together for a worthy cause.

Power of Partnerships

This is why we continue painting homes in our community year after year.  NHS believes in building strategic partnerships that contribute to building stronger communities, and we consider each sponsor, Buy A Bucket donor, committee member, and painting volunteer a partner that is doing their part to make a lasting difference in the Treasure Valley.  So we extend a heartfelt thank you to all who did something to make Paint The Town™ such a success!

If you enjoyed volunteering or missed the opportunity for this year’s event, consider joining one of Neighborhood Housing Services’ committees.  You can be part of planning the next major event, or offering your expertise on issues like real estate, loans, or business finance.
