Support Safer Neighborhoods at NHS’ National Night Out Celebrations

Between 2012 and 2013, Boise had an overall 4% decrease in crime, and Nampa experienced a 17.4% decrease in crimes against persons and a 12.3% drop in crimes against property. This decline in Treasure Valley crime rates gives community members a great reason to celebrate at local National Night Out events this year, and Neighborhood Housing Services invites you to join our free celebrations, Tuesday, August 5th between 2pm-8pm at either our Gateway Crossing Apartments in Nampa or our Northwest Pointe Apartments in Boise.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of National Night Out (NNO) – an annual public safety effort to “promote crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.”  This crime-fighting campaign takes place every first Tuesday of August, as over 37.8 million people from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide celebrate with activities that include: block parties, cookouts, parades, rallies, exhibits, safety demonstrations, and visits from emergency personnel.

While NHS’ Gateway Crossing is known throughout the Treasure Valley for their elaborate NNO celebrations, this is the first time our Northwest Pointe Apartments will host their own festivities.  Each of the apartment communities will have their own line up of live entertainment, food menus, and contests.

Festivities at Gateway Crossing in Nampa will include:

  • Wet n’ Wild jump house for the kids
  • Raffle for the adults
  • Serving hot dogs and snow cones
  • Live music by local bands
  • Ballet Folklorico Mexica Lindo dance troupe
  • Comedian
  • Magician
  • McGruff the Crime Dog
  • Vendors with information and give-a-way goodies
  • Meeting Nampa’s Mayor Henry
  • Exploring a fire truck from Nampa’s fire department
  • Nampa police officers

Festivities at Northwest Pointe in Boise will include:

  • Resident entertainment with performances from a dance troupe, music group, and a comedian
  • Serving grilled hamburgers
  • Boise Urban Garden School (B.U.G.S)
  • ID Meth Project
  • Art Faire

  • Meeting Boise police, firefighters and City Council members

“People look forward to National Night Out, says NHS’ Resident Services Coordinator, Emily Pohlman.  It’s an entertaining and educational event for the whole family where you can show your support for your community’s public safety efforts, and possibly find ways that you can get involved.

Neighborhood Housing Services believes that stable homes and neighborhoods are key elements to overall public safety.  Come help us celebrate our communities’ lower crime rates at this year’s National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5th between 2pm-8pm at our Gateway Crossing or Northwest Pointe Apartments, and learn how to help make your neighborhood a more secure and stable place to live.  See you there!
