Kwal Primes Paint The Town For Success

Paint The Town™ is less than one month away, and we are so excited to bring back our original design – focusing our revitalization efforts in a few neighborhoods and reintroducing our Block Party! Saturday, June 7, 2014 marks Neighborhood Housing Services’ 32nd annual Paint The Town™ event, and by going back to our roots we hope to a) create an even larger and lasting impact within neighborhoods in the community, and b) encourage more camaraderie between the teams.

Ask any volunteer for the Neighborhood Housing Services program, Paint The Town, ™ and they will tell you how rewarding the experience is for them. It’s hard not to get emotional as you watch a senior or disabled homeowner’s face light up as they see the finished product of their freshly painted home. Over the past 31 years, we have seen many touching stories where this event has improved the quality of life of deserving people. And Ella’s story is one that exemplifies the purpose of Paint The Town™ – a story of neighbors and community members giving back to a hardworking, 88 year old woman when she could not physically or financially paint her home.

NHS to Participate in Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge

Neighborhood Housing Services is a proud participant of the Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge again this year, a donation campaign provided by the Home Partnership Foundation. Housing organizations from around the state of Idaho will compete for challenge grant funds between December 10th to 31st. Grants are awarded based on the number of unique donors who contribute over $25 online during this time frame. There are also many other ways to achieve grants, including early bird, daily drawings and greatest weekly effort awards.

NHS Goes Green

Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) has recently committed to work towards the NeighborWorks America Green Organization designation. The designation recognizes NeighborWorks network members who incorporate healthy and sustainable principles into every facet of their operations and throughout their lines of business. As of this fall, NHS is considering green standards in its operations and single family construction plans and has already started to include green recommendations and materials for homeownership counseling participants and residents of its affordable housing properties.

NHS Awarded CDFI Funds for Mortgage Lending

Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) has been notified that the U. S. Department of the Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund selected NHS Lending Inc. for an award through the FY 2013 CDFI Program. The award of $600,000 provides substantial support to grow our program that offers mortgage loans to qualified low- to moderate income families and individuals. NHS Lending provides flexibility that is not available from conventional lenders, paving the way to homeownership for those who would otherwise not be able to buy a home.

Paint The Town™ 2013 was a great success and Neighborhood Housing Services is excited to share the highlights of the great community impact this program has made in the Treasure Valley. On June 8th, 65 teams painted 58 homes, volunteering over 7200 hours in order to complete the revitalization projects.
