| On June 28, nearly 300 volunteers from The Home Depot, Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS), Key Bank, Albertsons SUPERVALU and Carlson Leisure joined forces to build a state-of-the-art KaBOOM! playground at Northwest Pointe Apartments, an affordable multifamily community owned and managed by NHS. The entire playground was built in JUST ONE DAY!
A little background…..
KaBOOM! is a national nonprofit organization that envisions a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America. Over the past decade, KaBOOM! has used its innovative community-build model to bring together business and community interests to construct nearly 1,000 new play areas across North America, www.kaboom.org.
NHS learned that they were selected for a KaBOOM! playground in April, and the fun began immediately! Due to the large number of low and moderate-income children living at Northwest Pointe, NHS knew that this playground would be a spectacular and much needed improvement to the multifamily community, as well as the surrounding neighborhood.

The children living at Northwest Pointe designed their own playground! A Design Day was held in May giving the children an opportunity to draw their “dream playground.” KaBOOM! program managers took each “dream playground” into consideration and created the final design. It’s perfect! In addition to building an amazing playground, volunteers (including residents from Northwest Pointe) also constructed a shade structure, eight picnic benches, planter benches and a butterfly garden. There is truly something for everyone, of ALL ages, to enjoy!
