November 22, 2008

Fall is a beautiful time of year in the City of Trees, the multi-colored leaves are a sight to behold. During late fall, the City of Trees turns into the city of leaves. These leaves pose a problem for many senior and disabled residents who are unable to rake and bag them. Please help by joining Rake Up Boise.

Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc., (NHS) and event sponsors 94.9 The River, Idaho Business Review, Channel 6, Key Bank, City of Boise, Zamzows, Idaho Power, Idaho Banking Company, and State Farm Insurance present Rake Up Boise™ 2008.

Time to Winterize
Is your home drafty and cold during the winter months? Is your heating bill way too high? With the rising costs of utilities it is very important that your home is weatherized. Weatherizing your home can noticeably reduce your energy costs. The following list is what you can do to make your home more energy efficient.

Use weather stripping or caulk to seal your home's exterior doors and windows.
Repair or replace any defective storm or thermopane windows.
Seal heat delivery ducts and drafts to prevent loss of heat.
Insulate walls, attics, and floors.
Install a water heater blanket.
Have your furnace tuned up, replacing any worn or defective parts.

EI-ADA Community Action Agency provides energy assistance and weatherization for limited income households.
